Why HTLVAware?
We felt that too many patients with HTLV and their relatives, too many clinicians and scientists did not know what HTLV was. We felt that everybody has the right to quick, accurate and easily accessible information online, but especially people who are suffering with HTLV and those who care for them. It made us upset to see how many doctors and patients were stepping in the dark, when faced with the diagnosis of HTLV, HAM/TSP and ATLL. We hope that the HTLVAware website and twitter account will bring information on HTLV to you and bring HTLV positive people together.
When do we work on the website:
We work alone or together during our free time. We make sure we have plenty of coffee, chocolate, good food and music to keep us going. Thinking of how we can help and make this world a better place gives us lots and lots of energy. We do not receive any funds to run this site. Hopes: WE WANT A CURE FOR HTLV, HAM/TSP, ATLL and all other HTLV associated diseases. We wish for ring fenced funding into HTLV research in order to find a vaccine and cure: SOON. We wish for effective HTLV prevention program similar to other blood born viruses: even SOONER. |

Who am I: A biology graduate, with lab and research experience - working in market research. After working on a few projects during university I got involved through a research project I undertook with the HTLV team in Salvador, Brazil. After being part of the community that looks into HTLV I naturally wanted to offer my support.

Who am I: I decided to become a doctor when I was 5 years old. Thanks to my parents and teachers I am now a doctor and a scientist based at the University of Queensland. I got involved with HTLV medicine by doing my MDRes in HAM/TSP at Imperial College London. Prof Taylor and Weber were my clever and kind supervisors. Find out more about my involvement at http://researchers.uq.edu.au/researcher/18534

I also look after patients with sexual health problems and HIV infection. Needless to say I love what I am doing and I am really grateful for the trust my patients, students and colleagues have in me.
